Silent Auction: Every year we hold a silent auction at the finals where you can place a silent bid on items donated. We are asking that every member bring at least one item for the National basket OR the Silent Auction. The highest bidder at the end of the rodeo will get to purchase that item. All the money for the auction goes to the finals fund. Please try to bring something nice for the auction. It can be ANYTHING but make sure it is something you would purchase.

National Basket

We are asking that every member bring at least one item for the National basket OR the Silent Auction. New Mexico will be taking a basket to the National High School Finals rodeo in Farmington this summer, but I need your help in filling it up. Each state brings a basket filled with fun things and food that are native to their state, and then they are judged. After the judging, people can come by and place bids on the baskets. All the money goes to the NHSRA Crisis Fund. Our state basket brought in over $400.00 last year. So, if you could bring something that is unique to your area it would sure help us out. Some ideas might be: Pistachio’s from Alamogordo, chili products from Las Cruces and Hatch, Peanuts from Portales, Native American items, western themed products, etc. Please help us out with our National Basket!

Cutters: Make sure you check out the Finals Schedule to know when the cuttings are to be held.

National Packet: For those of you that are fortunate enough to qualify for Nationals, you need to be prepared to pay for stalls, your room deposit or camping deposits and any jackpot fees (if you chose to jackpot-it is optional), at the State Finals. I will also need your jacket size and shirt size. I have to send all the money and forms to Nationals on Monday morning!!! There will be a MANDATORY NATIONAL CONTESTANTS meeting on Sunday, June 8th, 2008 following the awards breakfast and you will need to COMPLETE your packets before you leave Carlsbad Sunday morning. If I do not have your completed packet by the time I leave, you will NOT be going to Nationals and the next person in line will take your place. Unfortunately, I DO NOT have time to be tracking you down with unanswered questions, so take care of business before you leave!!!!!!

EACH STATE HAS ONLY BEEN ALLOTTED 9 HOTEL ROOMS IN THE BLOCK AND 14 CAMPING SPACES. We will be doing a draw at the Finals. If you do NOT draw a camping site or a hotel room in the block, there will be a list of motels in your packets that are affiliated with the Nationals. We will be keeping a waiting list after the first people drawn. Last year we got quite a few camping spots over our allotted 14.

For those who qualify for Nationals, there area several fun contests that you might want to participate in. These include: Knowledge Bowl Competition, Trap Shooting Competition, Small Bore Caliber Shooting Competition, Student Delegates, to sing the National Anthem at one of the perfs, Talent contest, Prom, Volleyball Tourney and 3 on 3 Basketball Challenge. We will decide on our teams at the MANDATORY NATIONAL CONTESTANTS meeting on Sunday, June 8th, 2008, so be thinking about it!
